Panic Button - synopsis
|
"Four young people win a trip of a lifetime to New York,
courtesy of their favourite social-networking website -
All2gethr.com. As they board the private jet, they are asked to
relinquish their mobile phones and take part in the in-flight
entertainment - a new online gaming experience.
But this is no ordinary game. Trapped at 30,000 feet, they are
forced to play for their lives and the lives of their loved ones by
their invisible captor, who seems to all know their
most intimate secrets.
With no escape and no one to trust, they are about to learn that
putting your life on-line can have deadly offline
consequences…" |
Why we made it
Like the best horror films, Panic Button holds up a mirror to
society and taps into current social fears; we're talking about
internet identity theft, social media crime, cyber bullying, peer
pressure and child abduction. Not only that but we're taking these
edgy topics and containing our drama in an almost a real-time
situation, 30,000 feet up in the air isolated from the rest of the
world. Anybody fearful about online security with a phobia of
flying should steer well clear!
Whilst we feel that we have created a fresh, exciting, dramatic
and original story, we made an early decision to operate quite
firmly within familiar horror/thriller genre trappings, in order to
ensure commercial appeal.
Throughout the projects development we heard of increasingly
horrific news stories about elaborate pranks, assaults, abductions,
murders and child abuse cases all enabled through social
networking platforms. The villain of the Panic Button story
operates through a fictitious social networking website (all2gethr.com) and is both victim and
perpetrator of the most heinous online behavior.
It was our intention that the situations and moral implications
portrayed within the film will strike a chord with parents, young
people and most users of internet technologies. It is sure to spark
discussion amongst viewers by presenting a message that may even
cause them to reassess their own online behavior.
