  • Shortcuts to Hell 2 winner announced

    09-10-2014 09:41

Horror Channel, FrightFest, Movie Mogul and Wildseed Studios today announced the winner of their nationwide search for a talented filmmaker, primed and ready to make their first horror feature film. Chosen by a public vote from a professional jury-selected shortlist of three finalists, the winner is Joe and Lloyd Staszkiewicz who won for their short film Hubert's Ghost.

Joe and Lloyd Stas, will have their film produced by Movie Mogul and Wildseed Studios, entering production early 2015, with a minimum cash production fund of £20,000, offered by Horror Channel and Wildseed Studios equally. It is hoped to expand the budget with other funds and sponsorship that the partners and team can bring to the table. The completed feature film will receive UK digital distribution, its world premiere at Film4 FrightFest 2015, and a broadcast premiere on Horror Channel, the UK's first channel dedicated to the dark side of cinema.

Lloyd Stas (pictured above) said: "It's amazing to have won this competition. It's been a tough experience, going through the public vote, but Joe and I have learnt a lot during the process. We're certainly more ready now to make the movie than we were before."

Chris Sharp, Chief Content Officer for AMC Networks International - Zone commented: "Shortcuts To Hell isn't just a film competition, it's a national talent search designed to unearth fresh new, highly driven talent and provide a solid platform and framework for them, within which to produce their first feature film. We hope that this year's winners will champion this visionary new production model, and that their success will help pave the way for many more exciting new filmmakers to follow in their wake, with bold and original new feature film projects each year. Congratulations to Joe and Lloyd Staszkiewicz, we look forward to showing their film debut on Horror Channel."

John Shackleton, Joint Managing Director of Movie Mogul added: "It is truly exciting to be able to offer this remarkable opportunity to such talented newcomers who have proven their ability and worth on every level throughout this competition. We can't wait to work with them and look forward to presenting their films to you in 2015!"

Miles Bullough, Managing Director of Wildseed Studios said: "Wildseed is all about supporting new talent to create projects that punch above their weight and we can't wait to get stuck into producing what we like to call our next 'microbuster' movie with our partners the Horror Channel and Movie Mogul."

Alan Jones, Co-director of FrightFest also added: "The Shortcuts to Hell competition slot at FrightFest was an instant success the moment it was announced. And it is always a hot ticket because it attracts such an interested and engaged crowd. It is so exciting for us to be a part of building its reputation every year as the major go-to search for tomorrow's industry talent. FrightFest congratulates the winner and knows it will be showing the work of this innovative competition winner in the very near future."

THE SLEEPING ROOM is a tense and gripping white knuckle ride of a movie, check out the trailer and pitch now!

The unique and exciting aspect of this is that the offering is not restricted to business angels and venture capitalists. Film fans and members of the public can get involved too, with a minimum investment of just £10. If we are succesful in reaching our £10,000 target, then will be the first UK film production to equity crowdfund online.

Funds will be used to assist in the completion and delivery of the finished film, helping us take THE SLEEPING ROOM to market, and ultimately into cinemas. Benefits for UK tax payers include 50% tax relief on investments made, plus tax free profits through the companies *SEIS status. See how it works.

Please help us to complete this exciting film and help us spread the word as far and wide as possible!

    Many thanks

  • Shortcuts To Hell winner announced at FrightFest

    27-08-2013 11:19

Sunday the 25th August was the day that the six Shortcuts To Hell finalists assembled at the Empire cinema at Leicester Square to see their films projected on the biggest screen in Europe before the Shortcuts To Hell judges and discerning Film4 FrightFest audience.

    The amazing 6 finalists were:

    David 'Dwyz' Wayman

    Alex Chandon

    Rick James

    Joe & Lloyd Stas

    Weronika Tofilska

    Mikel Iriarte

Given the wealth of talent in the room, we at Movie Mogul extended the offer of development support to all 6 finalists in advance of the award ceremony. We're all thrilled at the potential of what these exciting new collaborations could bring, so just watch this space over the coming months!

On stage, filmmaker Alex Chandon (INBRED) revealed that being known by some of the judges, he had submitted his '6th Sense' film under the alias of Alice Moet, and was pleased that his submission had got through on merit alone, an important factor to us all in this entire SCTH competition and selection process.

The films all looked amazing on the big screen and it's safe to say that the shorts blew the audience away, the reaction was just incredible!

Then came the big moment, six months and 157 films in the making... who was going to win the £6,666 prize money? Paul McEvoy and Emily Booth revealled that the name on the giant cheque, written in Lucifer's own blood was.... Weronika Tofilska!

    6 Feet Under

The synopsis for her 'nercromantic' short '6 Feet Under' reads:

'A young woman's imagination gets the better of her whilst beautifying an attractive male corpse in a morgue.'

The judges felt that in many ways, Weronika had created the perfect short film and given the audience reaction to the film also, it seems that her film would have secured an audience vote too, had there been one.

  • Be a Movie Mogul

    16-03-2013 10:50

Sci-Fi action movie WE ARE MONSTERS is now seeking equity partners

Are you classed as a 'high net worth individual'? Do you have a significant tax bill that you would like to reduce?

    Winning Mogul

Movie Mogul Ltd are now raising equity finance through their HMRC approved, Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) - Recondite Films Ltd. Investing a minimum of £25,000 (1 Unit) in WE ARE MONSTERS offers the following benefits:

    • 30% EIS tax relief to UK investors

    • First recoupment position from Company Net Receipts on the movie, plus a further 50% share of Company Net Receipts thereafter

Investing £100,000 and above in WE ARE MONSTERS offers the above benefits plus:

    • EXECUTIVE PRODUCER status on the movie

Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you require an investment pack

    Movie Mogul

    EIS Information
30% tax credit on any investment between £25,000 and £1,000,000. Therefore £60,000 invested in our EIS means £18,000 credit against your tax bill (there must be a tax liability at least equal to the credit claimed).

The investment must be kept intact for 3 years and 4 months, after which all gains are free of all taxes regardless of the profits with no ceiling.

The investment can be used to defer capital gains tax on a realised gain invested into the film. This also means that if you have paid capital gains tax in the last 3 years, and maybe paid 40% tax on it, the realised gain can be invested into the EIS and any tax paid claimed back, which can then be used in conjunction with the 30% on investment.

The investment also takes that amount invested out of the scope of inheritance tax after 2 years, which is attractive to those looking to minimise their overall estate`s exposure to tax, whilst retaining control of their investments.

The investment is made directly into shares of Recondite Films Ltd and the initial investment remains at 100%, even though the net cost to the investor is only 70%. No fees or commissions are charged.

In the event of losses, then that loss, less the credit already received, can be offset against any other income.

Investors should seek advice from their own professional advisers as to the suitability of the investment and their entitlement to tax relief. HMRC publish relevant information on their website.

A PDF of HMRC's guidance on EIS - An Introduction to the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) - can be downloaded from their website.

    22-11-2012 17:06

Are you a creative, talented person, overflowing with ideas?

Movie Mogul are looking for new collaborators to help conceive, develop, write and produce micro-budget feature films with - could this be you?

  • Panic Button novel, Kindle downloads

    07-08-2012 22:02

Always keen to keep an eye on the changing digital landscape and dip our toes in chilly, shark-infested waters, we at MM decided to have a stab in the world of self-publishing, with Frazer Lee's movie novelisation of Panic Button.

In February this year we took a little punt (one of many!) and launched the Panic Button novel on Amazon as an exclusive digital download for Kindle.

Utilising various free download days, but keeping the novel a snip at 99p the rest of the time, we are somewhat amazed to be able to report that almost 30,000 units have now been downloaded since Feb 2012.

At its prime, the novel has resided at No1 in the overall (free) download charts and No1 in Horror and Thriller (paid) charts, whilst gaining significant top ten traction in the overall paid chart too.

This has undoubtedly effected DVD sales and word of mouth for the film, and has been a real eye opening experience for us to say the least. We love you Amazon, and we'll be back with more - just wait and see! Anybody not familiar with the novel can check it out here.

Just goes to show that sometimes it pays to get wet!

  • What's new this year?

    03-02-2012 10:24

Well it's been almost a year since our last blog update, that's crap we know, but mainly because we've been so involved in Panic Button and its sales and promotion that we've migrated to other platforms and been having fun running competitions and building the story universe. We're more often found over at:, Facebook, Twitter, and @AlligatorKiller seems to enjoy consuming our time too.

We intend to do more this year with Welsh Producers Network and get some regular meetings and events going.

We have three new films in development, all of which are exciting us greatly.

Psycological thiller 'Quickfire' - is currently being penned by writer Helen Adkins

Comedy 'Forgers Of The North' - is currently being written by comedy genius Rob Sprackling

And teenage monster movie 'Recondites' is being written and packaged in house

We'll also be looking at some quicker turnaround micro budget genre flicks in coming months. A busy and exciting time for sure! In truth we dont know which project will receive the greenlight first, so we're just enjoying the ride for now.

We will endeavour to share more news, more often, new year's resolution, promise!

If you haven't seen Panic Button yet, you can pick it up on Amazon or iTunes, simples

    Thanks for reading
